Practical guide
Choosing the right domain name
Your domain name is used for your website and your email addresses for years. A few simple rules will save you from regrets.
.be, .com or .eu?
The .be reassures Belgian customers and signals a local business. The .com is international and very well known. The .eu suits a European activity. If your customers are in Belgium, the .be is often the best choice; also registering the .com prevents a third party from using it.
The rules of a good name
Short, easy to say over the phone and to write without mistakes. Avoid hyphens and numbers that cause confusion ("two" or "2"?). Avoid accents in the domain name.
Check that the name does not use an existing brand: in the event of a conflict, you could have to give it up.
Think about your emails: contact@votre-nom.be must remain readable and professional.
Protecting variants
Depending on your activity, also register similar variants (with and without a hyphen, other extensions) and redirect them to your main website. With Ouibel, only one domain is indexed by Google: the others redirect with a 301, with no duplicate content.
Frequently asked questions
In brief
Can I change my domain name later?
Yes, using 301 redirects to preserve your search ranking, but it is easier to choose well from the start.
Does the domain belong to me?
It must be registered in your name (or your company's name): always check this.
