Hospitality cash registers: legal requirements

In the Belgian hospitality sector, the cash register is not just a practical choice: it can be a legal obligation. The points to know before you invest in equipment.

The electronic cash register system (SCE)

In Belgium, hospitality operators whose annual turnover from restaurant and catering services exceeds €25,000 excl. VAT (excluding drinks) must use an approved electronic cash register system (SCE) fitted with a control module. The precise rules and any changes to them are published by the FPS Finance: check your situation with them or with your accountant.

Electronic payment

Since 1 July 2022, businesses selling to consumers in Belgium must offer at least one electronic payment method. Your till must therefore work with a payment terminal.

Choosing the right till

Think about your dining room (number of tables, kitchen orders), your menu, the number of workstations and compatibility with your environment (for example Eureka). A proper installation and careful training save valuable time during service. See our POS systems.
